AACP Musculoskeletal Management Refresher - London - June 2019

 This two day CPD course is designed for clinicians who have previously undertaken a recognised acupuncture foundation course and wish to refresh their practical skills in the clinical management of musculoskeletal conditions. The focus of this course will be a revision of the most commonly used points from the foundation course and how to incorporate them into the effective clinical management of common musculoskeletal conditions. Clinical reasoning based on physiological mechanisms will also be covered as will prescription development within acupuncture.

Participants should be MCSP and HCPC registered and have already successfully undertaken a recognised acupuncture foundation course.

 

 Aims

  • To refresh the participant’s theoretical knowledge of the analgesic mechanisms of acupuncture.
  • To refresh the participant’s theoretical knowledge of the health and safety aspects related to the clinical application of acupuncture.
  • To refresh the participant’s theoretical knowledge of acupuncture and its role in the treatment of musculoskeletal pain.

 

Training Objectives

Knowledge

To reintroduce the participant to:

  • The concept of the analgesic mechanisms of acupuncture.
  • The issues related to the health and safety aspects of the clinical application of acupuncture.
  • The application of acupuncture and its role in the treatment of musculoskeletal pain.

 

Skills

To be able to:

  • Explain the analgesic mechanisms of acupuncture.
  • Safely and effectively needle a variety of acupuncture points for the purpose of the treatment of musculoskeletal pain.
  • Clinically reason the application of acupuncture in the treatment of musculoskeletal pain.
  • Integrate acupuncture into the complete management of musculoskeletal pain in a clinical physiotherapeutic setting.

 

Understanding

To understand:

  • The analgesic mechanisms of acupuncture.
  • The health and safety issues related to the treatment of musculoskeletal pain with acupuncture.
  • The clinically reasoned use of acupuncture in the clinical physiotherapeutic setting.

 

These objectives will be achieved through a variety of teaching strategies including lectures, tutorials, seminars, action groups, problem-based learning scenarios, clinical reasoning-based case studies and practical needling situations. Learning will also be supported by the course study manual and the use of research-based teaching materials and methods.
