Counselling, Psychotherapy, Ethics and the Law

Go Back

An essential workshop for counsellors and psychotherapists wanting to understand the law underpinning our therapeutic practice.

This is an highly participative workshop, which explores key aspects of the law relating to therapeutic practice in England and Wales.

The workshop will provide an overview of the law relating to therapy and examine how it relates to ethics, in the form of the BACP Ethical Framework.

The workshop unpicks the key aspects of working in a safe, effective and accountable way with clients, via discussion of a key legal case involving alleged therapist professional negligence.

We explore issues relating to challenges to maintaining client confidentiality, and legal perspectives on managing risk, such as suicide, child abuse and harm to third parties.

Legal aspects of access to client records by solicitors, the police and courts will also be covered.
