Reflective Practice for people working with clients who have experienced historical childhood sexual abuse (HCSA)

Go Back

In recent years more and more information is coming into the public eye about the extent of childhood sexual abuse amongst those experiencing mental health problems. Working with these clients can be challenging and distressing to those frontline staff offering them a service. There is often limited training and specialist supervision in this area which can leave providers feeling ill equipped and unsure about the most effective ways of providing support to these deeply traumatised individuals.

Reflective practice involves thoughtfully considering your own experiences as you make the connection between knowledge and practice, under the guidance of an experienced professional. The reflective practice model enables each participant to compare their own practices with each other and develop a creative approach to problem solving, thus leading to development and improvement.
