Suicide and suicidal ideation

We’ll touch on delegate’s personal value base, update knowledge of current facts and figures regarding suicide, consider how working with a suicidal client can alter the therapeutic relationship in general and then encourage delegates to apply the day’s learning to their own counselling practice.

The main aims of the PDD is to

1. Reflect on personal understanding of suicide.
2. Gain an overview of facts and figures surrounding suicide.
3. Clarify the impact that suicidal ideation can have upon the counselling relationship.
4. Raise awareness of the potential impact that client’s suicidal ideation may have on your own practice.

By the end of the PDD, you will be able to

1. Identify personal feelings and reactions surrounding suicide.
2. Update knowledge with regard to suicide statistics and exploration of how the most recent suicide statistics can inform practice.
3. Understand the potential impact of suicidal ideation on the counselling relationship.
4. Recognise the potential impact that suicidal ideation may have on your own practice.
