Supporting People On The Autistic Spectrum

Go Back

According to The National Autistic Society, there are around 700,000 people on the autism spectrum in the UK – that's more than 1 in 100. This developmental condition has a huge impact on how people communicate and interact with the world around them. Our public training day aims to really put you in touch with the issues faced by People with Autism, their parents and carers; and to offer ways of working with them that will both improve your knowledge and increase your confidence.

The course will cover:

  • Exploring Autism through discussions and exercises, looking at:

       What is Autism?

       Causes of Autism

The Triad of Impairments and diagnosis of Autism and Asperger Syndrome

Current thinking and legislation relating to Autism

  • Some of the characteristics and behaviours exhibited by people with Autism
  • The differences between Autism, High Functioning Autism and Asperger Syndrome.
  • Barriers in society for people on the Autism spectrum and their families, and ways to support them to overcome them.
  • Best practice strategies for working with autistic people and their families.
