The Art of Working with Anxious, Antagonistic Adolescents

Go Back

Why study this course?

When young people complain of ‘anxiety’, how should we respond? What makes them anxious and what assuages their anxiety? How much is their antagonism a response to anxiety and how much is anxiety what they feel when their antagonism can’t be expressed?

The workshop will be experiential and practical as well as theoretical. We’ll think about our own experiences as well as the experiences of the young people with whom we’re working. We will practise and learn together.

What to expect

This workshop will explore the anxiety and the antagonism at the heart of young people’s development. We’ll look at issues such as dependence, separation, death, guilt, sex, failure, aggression, anger, hatred, chaos, ambivalence and disappointment.

The day will be an opportunity to explore individual and group processes through experience and case material.
