Jimdo ( is a great package which helps you to build your own website with very little technical knowledge. It caters for people of all abilities and will help you to build a professional-looking website at a fraction of the cost of a designer-built one. You can even sign up for the free version if you want to have a go at it without committing yourself. Jimdo will provide you with a domain name, host your site, provide email addresses and lots of support – all for a bargain £60 per year, on a yearly contract. The Pro package is more than sufficient for the average therapist.

The first thing you notice about Jimdo is how user-friendly it is. What you see on your screen is what your website visitors see – no need to switch between editing and published mode to see what you’ve just created. If you can use Microsoft Word and similar programmes, then using Jimdo will be second-nature. The versatility of Jimdo Pro means that it’s great for beginners but can also be highly customised by experienced web designers, who can use the HTML and CSS editor to tweak the site to make it even more unique to your business.

Once you’re ready to start making your site, the first thing you will do is select your layout. Jimdo has over 120 templates to choose from, although it can be difficult to work out the subtle differences between all of them. You can change your layout at any point though and preview it before committing to the final change. Once this is in place, you can start the design work. Firstly, create your header. You can choose from lots of Jimdo’s own designs (which you can then edit in terms of changing colours and patterns) or upload one of your own. You can also upload your company logo if you have one. Type whatever text you want for your header and move it around the header until it’s in the right place. Again, you can edit the font, text size and style to suit your needs. Jimdo has recently added Google’s full collection of web fonts and also allows you to select from a full range of the colour palette to really customise your site.

Next you can insert the number of pages and sub-pages you want, give them names and start to fill them with content. This is as simple as selecting your ‘element’. This is the name given to whatever you want to insert, for example, a text box, heading, picture or web link. There are so many things you can add to your webpage with Jimdo Pro: tables, photo galleries, Google maps of your clinic location, a RSS feed, videos and more.

Jimdo Pro is fully integrated with social media, such as Twitter, Facebook, Flickr and Google +. If you post on Twitter then it shows up immediately on your website. You can even add a guestbook, upload files (such as health screening forms) for clients to download and widgets, like visitor counters and a calendar. Whilst this sounds complicated, it really isn’t. Just one click and you’re done – Jimdo Pro is very intuitive to use. And, of course, you can add a spam-free contact form so your clients can get in touch with you directly from your website.

If you want to develop your website further, Jimdo offer an online store facility and a blog. They also have a simple newsletter tool so you can keep your clients up-to-date with your latest news and offers. The online store is very easy to use and clients can pay via Paypal or you can can choose other options such as cheques, invoicing or pay later. You can list up to 15 products with the Pro package or upgrade to Jimdo Business (£180 per year) if you want unlimited amounts. All of Jimdo’s designs are mobile-friendly so your site is fully optimised for use on mobile and tablet devices, making it simple for clients to use.

If you do get stuck at any point, then Jimdo has an excellent support service. You can use the live chat feature, email, submit an online help form, read the help articles, watch a video tutorial or sign up for a live webinar. Jimdo offer one of the best support services for a DIY website builder, really caring about helping their clients create and run the best site possible.

Of course, the most important thing is that visitors will be able to easily find your website. Jimdo has an excellent reputation in this area, doing well in search engines, as every page is automatically search engine optimised. In addition, you can make this even more effective by adapting the meta-tags for each web page and adding image alt tags to pictures. Again, there are helpful tutorials to explain how you can get the best SEO from your website – no prior knowledge is necessary.

To check that your website is performing well, Jimdo provides statistics for you. You can see the number of visitors to your site, review the search terms they used to find you, which sites your visitors came from and how often each page was viewed. You can then use this information to adjust your meta-tags or back-links if necessary.

Overall, Jimdo Pro is a super package if you want to build your own website, whatever level of knowledge you have already. It’s user-friendly, intuitive to navigate around and you can get professional-looking results with no programming knowledge. If you do have expertise in this area, you can customise your site even further. Jimdo Pro provides you with an easy-to-use website builder tool, hosting, a domain name (you can import your own too), email addresses, blog and online store options and a newsletter tool. The company also provides excellent help and support too. At £60 a year, including VAT, Jimdo Pro is great value-for-money and is definitely a package to check out if you want to create your own website.
