Workbooks provides you with the ability to integrate your sales, marketing and customer services into one place. It aims to meet the needs of small to medium size businesses, which is reflected in its competitive price.

Free trial: Yes (cloud version)

Cost: £19 per month

Getting started with Workbooks is quite time consuming. It offers extensive customisation, which provides you with the option to set up databases and dashboards as per your requirements. However, this means that first you have to spend quite a bit of time familiarising yourself with the programme before you can master it and use it to its maximum advantage. This is probably the best, and at the same time, the worst thing about Workbooks. You also have to allow plenty of set-up time at the beginning as you need to personalise the programme with things such as your business registration number and currency region before you can start using it.

Once you’re up and running, the main homepage is not very intuitive and you’ll probably benefit from a training session to learn to find your way around. Exporting and importing databases, restricting permissions and sizes of databases, and dealing with API configurations seem to be the very basic steps in just setting up a primary database. Unless you’re a more advanced computer user, which most therapists aren’t, you will struggle to manage this.

Workbooks is aimed at sales, marketing, invoicing and order processing, as well as contact management. Therefore, if you’re only looking for contact management software then you’ll find that the dashboards are cluttered with options that you don’t need. Also, although most basic features are well covered, newer features such as social media integration which are available in other CRM packages are not a feature of Workbooks. In addition, Workbooks is only available in a cloud version, which means that you always have to have an internet connection to use it.

Overall, Workbooks isn’t the most user-friendly package on the market and needs more advanced computer skills to understand and use it to its full advantage. It offers good basic features and at a mere £19 per user per month, it is a cost-effective CRM solution for sole practitioners.
